Gannett Conference Call on Monday

Gannett Co., Inc., largest contributor to the Monroe County Democratic Party through in-kind services by its subsidiary, the Democrat and Chronicle, will hold its quarterly conference call to discuss earnings results next Monday, January 30 at 10:00 a.m..

Although I totally agree with your suggestion that the D&C's editorial and content policies are biased, I'm not sure I see the connection to Gannett's earnings or stock performance. Newspaper industry woes are by no means unique to Gannett. I'm a fan of the LA Times (not a Gannett newspaper) and, with the Internet, that newspaper is a shadow of its former self.

On the subject of the D&C, I noticed an online article posted this afternoon by David Andreatta. He discussed, in great detail, matters that were apparently the subject of an executive session of the Monroe County Legislature.

Isn't confidentiality the purpose of executive session? Couldn't the release of this information prejudice ongoing settlement negotiations? How did Reporter Andreatta obtain this information? Am I missing something? Are there any attorneys or governmental law experts out there who could help me understand this?

That's a lot of questions, so I'll sign off for now.
