Rep. Kathy Hochul won't attend the Democratic National Convention, to try to distance herself from President Obama. Neither will some other vulnerable Democrats running for re-election this year. But can they hide their support of the President's policies?

At least it suggests how the wind blows in that district and districts similar to it. Hochul represents a Republican district that just became somewhat more Republican after redistricting. So I don't think it comes as a surprise that she'd want to distance herself from the President. Democratic candidates in West Virginia, where Obama's popularity is especially low, are doing the same thing practically en masse, starting with Senator Manchin.
So I think it tells us more about campaign tactics in certain districts than about the national election generally, except in the sense that it's one more reflection of the President's diminished popularity as compared to 2008.
And then you have Republicans like Sean Hanna sending out mailings and talking about how he is working with the Democratic Governor and Lt. Governor (from the back row of the State Assembly). Funny how these things go.
